New Years Eve Full Moon in Cancer Ritual
The start of our New Year brings the first Super Moon of 2018. It’s also the Full moon that allows for the Blue Moon in January. This Full Moon is in Cancer which can make for a dreamy, love-filled New Year’s Day or waking up with a cranky, crabby feeling that you need to change all the things wrong with everyone around you.
There something about the ending of 2017 what has brought up feelings for some of true-love, real joy and experiencing the beauty of our communities. It has been a great – though not easy - balance of family and friends this last month or so. Because of how difficult 2017 was, some of us have been limited in our ability to give the socially-acceptable and tangible recognitions that the season seems to dictate. Instead, we focused on the simple and pure happiness that comes from being present without presents to our amazing community of friends and family. This new tradition of doing things and sharing time that is not based in consumerism is something I want to extend into 2018. This Full Moon allows us the opportunity to continue our love-filled days into the New Year.
One thing to be aware of for this New Year’s Eve is the need to focus on forgiveness over being right. Cancer has a sharp and stubborn streak that can hurt those caught up in the interaction. We all have the ability this Full Moon to be cruel if we let ourselves get caught up in it. If we don’t focus on spreading our joy and love, we will instead focus on the thrill of the first cut to people in our lives. It’s not a good way to start the year. Instead, allow the deep and loving vibrations of Cancer to flow over your yearend celebration and the start of 2018. We want to welcome in the Venus/feminine energy of Cancer with this Full Moon. What would help you be more comfortable in your own life, which would, in turn, allow you to encourage the people around you to be comfortable? Let’s set some intentions around loving your life, community, home and yourself.
For me this energy has involved Christmas Dinner with one of my best girlfriends in Seattle. We talked, snuggled her dog and drank champagne. I realized this was the best way that I could spend Christmas night and prepare for the inspirations of the New Year. In fact, this wonderful girlfriend has inspired a first big intention that has already manifested for 2018. I’m ready to come out of my shell a little bit more and finally feel healthy enough to take a trip. This is a huge dream for me. This energy also showed up in my life when I had lunch with an old roommate from my college days. I was able to meet his wife and together we made some magic products to help them start the New Year off right. My heart was filled with love while we were having lunch and making plans for me to come visit them in Australia. I even managed some serious healing while visiting with them. I am constantly being reminded lately that we are all worthy and deserving of love, no matter what went before and that some things are best left in the past.
This Full Moon is such a perfect example of healthy Cancer energy. Good company, good food, good wine and lots of laughter. Let’s focus on the healthy attributes versus painful reactions to things we don’t like. Let’s not ‘overindulge’ this New Years because we want to be wake and ready to set our intentions for New Year’s Day. What do you want the next year to look like in terms of your community, your home, your love life and the amount of fun in your life? What do you need to let go of the habit or tendency or occasional perverse indulgence of hurting others and yourself? How can you nurture your own positive energy to the point where you have extra to share?
Ritual for the New Year’s Full Moon
Let’s work with water for this Full Moon. Cancer loves liquid, whether it is bathing, swimming, sitting by a body of water or drinking. They love all kinds of water. If you can, take a hot bath or drink a warm cup of tea as the first step. Thank Venus for coming in to help us with your intentions for 2018. Write down how you want to feel in 2018; meditate on concepts like secure, abundant, loved, successful, peaceful, activated, and adventurous. How can you lead from the heart in 2018? Write down these plans and hopes. Are you ready to start traveling? Are you ready to let go of resentments and forgive those people that hurt you? Are you ready to put your needs first in 2018, even if it means letting go of certain people and situations? Are you ready to step into and embrace your feminine energy? Are you ready to dream big and to do the work it takes to manifest your dreams? Write all of this down in your journal. Then take one word that you believe will be your power word for 2018 and write it down. We want to release this intention to water. You can go spend time at the beach and write this word on a rock and release the rock into the water. Or you can release it down your drain and letting it go into water systems. Or infuse a cup of water with your word and drink it. We want to honor water and our connection to how important water is to our lives. We want to honor how important our dreams are to our lives and we want to honor how magical 2018 is going to be.
