A Ritual for Cleaning
This week I’ve been cleaning; cleaning the house, clearing out my mind, and cleaning out memories. I didn’t realize until after the Full Moon that cleaning is the energy we will be working with this week as we move into retrograde season. What can you clean out of your life?
This energy is very different than the great purge at the beginning of the year. This cleaning isn’t about big gestures, it’s all about maintaining and appreciating. It concerns putting value on your time and space. Some of us will be using this energy to stand up for what we believe in, using our voices in a new and louder way, keeping more focused on the vision for our future. Some of us will bring support where we can, but will also be using this energy to clean out their health stories to brighten the physical part of their future. Is it time to start eating a healthier diet and to really give yourself time to listen to your body and what it needs? Is it time to clean out your attention list or cut down on social media?
The other theme I notice about this energy is how connected it is to earth energy. We are coming into the height of the summer. Plants in the Northern Hemisphere are responding to the heat. Animals are out enjoying the warmth of the sun and are no longer in hibernation mode. Last week I mentioned that if you saw a feather, it just might be a sign of Magic. Since writing that, I have seen multiple feathers on a daily basis. At first I didn’t realize it but by the end of the week I was laughing. The Universe didn’t just deliver, it delivered 6 feathers in one place.
In my garden the birds are playing, chirping up a storm and using my cat’s water bowl to bathe in. They are taking advantage of this rainy day to collect worms. They are connecting me to nature, slowing me down so I can catch the hummingbird feeding before it takes off to another flower at someone else’s house. The birds and other creatures are slowing me down enough to see feathers on the sidewalk, in the grass, under trees. They are slowing me down so that I can hear the hawk before the crows realize he is close. They are flying around me as I chat with my neighbors, getting to know people that I have lived near for years but never slowed down enough to talk too.
As we use this retrograde energy to slow down, we wake to realize that there are parts of our world we need to change and that communities are more important than ever. How can we use this energy to create a better place, for everyone? How can we start to help and support connecting, growing and working together? We all have a part in our ever-changing universe, so how can we best work together to organize and do better?
A Ritual for Cleaning
Let’s start small, maybe a bookcase, a drawer, or even just a bag. Can you take a place or thing you love and spruce it up? This will help to build on the energy. You can set the timer if you want, or listen to a piece of classical music piece that is longer in length to keep track of time. Or, you can allow yourself to get lost in cleaning and really take the time to notice each piece and decide its future. We just want to do something that moves us, and the things, possessions, objects, or baggage around us, a bit. Maybe it’s gardening a certain area of your garden where you want to put a bird bath, or a statue, or a new plant? We want to use the time cleaning to come back into our bodies and work on being mindful. While you’re cleaning, what are you thinking about? How does your body feel? What is coming up in terms of messages for you?
Next take out your journal and write down the areas you might want to concentrate on next. Is it a certain room in the house that needs to be turned into your new office so you can relax a little more and keep you happy enough to write? Are you going to take advantage of the beautiful fresh produce available now and start eating in a way that makes you feel better? Are you ready to just unplug from technology and go off the grid to find that missing piece you have been looking for; that pleasure in silence that only happens when you are in the middle of it? Are you ready to take bigger action in helping to lead us towards a better future? Something is asking us to change; what is it? Cleaning is change, it is improving your surroundings, it is letting go of emotions, and it is finding the courage to keep going. Dedicating time to cleaning, in whatever form it takes, is dedicating time to slow down and focus on something. It’s doing the work to improve your life and thus, improve the surroundings for others.
Take your time with this Ritual. We are working with Slow Magic. It’s not about grand gestures, it’s about Slow Magic making real change. This is about changing and cleaning our surroundings on a deep level. Use the Earth Energy to help keep you centered and grounded. We are moving slow right now and cleaning as we go.
