A Ritual for the Full Stop
I am half way through my ‘Full-Stop’ year and I cannot say it’s my favorite experiment. The idea of slowing your life down, almost to a complete halt, sounds easy in theory. I mean, slowing down means doing less, right? In reality, it has been a winding road, with several sharp turns, a few calm spots and a whole lot of altitude. I am six months into this and I can say in all honesty, it has not been easy. It is, however, the one that is changing the course of my life. For better, or worse.
One part of this experience seems to involve bird magic. I never noticed until this summer how attractive my garden is to birds. The more time I spend in the yard, the friendlier these creatures are becoming with me. I have a sweet hummingbird that comes to my deck to say good morning once I am sitting there with my tea. Today he was singing to me from the railing. I also noticed a healthy-sized robin running around my yard with a bunch of worms in its mouth, trying to scope out how friendly I am. I feel this shift in my garden after a hard rain brought new life to the plants. I then realized that this is similar to the celestial energy we are working with this week. Shifts are happening in our lives because of slow downs, disappointments, and frustrations or just plain exhaustion. There are planets starting to go retrograde and giving some big shifts but that doesn’t necessarily mean doom and gloom. It doesn’t mean we need to give up, it just means we need to slow down and notice what is changing. I would have never have noticed my sweet hummingbird or mama robin if I had not stopped and slowed down enough to notice their routines. I can even see this ‘Full Stop’ extending into other areas of my life.
I can say that the ‘Full Stop’ Ritual is one of the longest and most detailed journeys that I have ever been on. It goes against everything that our society seems to say is right. It’s the journey that will be questioned, time and time again. It’s the journey I forever want to take. It’s slowing down your life so much that mindfulness becomes your destination. It’s about addressing the exhaustion, confusion and aches. It’s about feeding the body, mind and spirit. It’s concerned with nurturing your needs on all levels. This is a powerful Ritual that will produce deep changes.
It is also a Ritual that could, and probably should, be done in small steps. The energy of this week will be similar. Can we pace our goals so we don’t get burned-out and lash out? Can we slow down enough in our energy that even our loftiest dream or block, will seem approachable? Can we allow the Universe to share its magic while at the same time notice what’s happening around us. This Full Moon can be used to create space for newness’ new jobs, new love, new people, and new ways of enjoying things. To allow for this energy of newness, we must slow down to find the magic. We must come back into our bodies and heal. We must connect with our communities to grow. We must allow for life to move forward, even in the slow times.
A Ritual for a Full Stop
You can do this for an hour, a day, a week or year, or forever. It’s size is dependent on you. Where in your life do you need to do a full stop? This need is deeper than your responsibilities or lifestyle. Where do you need a little Slow Down magic and space? Where do you need to make deep changes? Slowing down can be good. It allows you to notice yourself and your surroundings in a different light. It makes space for you to breathe, to create, to manifest. Decide what you need. Do you need just a day to give yourself a time to relax, to eat healthy and rest? Do you want to leave your phone at home so you can stay present on your adventure? Or do you have a longer-term need? Maybe it’s time to take a full stop from dating to just enjoy your summer? How about nothing but friend-dates this summer? Perhaps it would be nothing but focusing on what makes you happy, be they pool parties, movie nights, or family picnics. How about a couple of weekend adventures thrown in. Coming to a full stop will allow for these new fun events. Focus on being present with friends and family, smiling and enjoying your time together. Or maybe you are at a place like me; a full stop to everything. Maybe your body is calling out for some healing and attention so loudly that all you can do is come to a Full Stop to recover. What is it you need?
Write this need in your journal. What does it look like? Add as many details as you can. Start to build out the vision of this need. Maybe you just need a night to journal and get in touch with yourself. Carve out time to do this work. It’s the perfect Full Moon for creating this vision.
I would burn some incense while working on this Ritual if you can. We want to honor the birds with some air magic since they have showing up lately. If you find a feather…… just know it’s Magic.
