Preparing for the Big Slow Down
Right now the energy is quick and seems to be never-ending. There isn’t much that can stop the waves of information coming at us, the things happening around us, or happening to us. It’s exhausting. How can we handle this energy? We do it with the great slow down. Starting when Venus went into retrograde and continuing into this summer, we have five (5!) planets going into retrograde which means we will be slowing way down.
Speaking for myself, just the thought of slowing down brings up anxiety. I think, ‘What if it means I lose everything again?’ ‘What if it means more trouble?’ But then, if I truly allow myself to slow down; breathe, stand still and close my eye, I realize I could use a slowdown. I could use a break. As soon as I relaxed into the idea of slow down energy, I realized a couple of things.
Right now I desire to focus on health; healthy eating, healthy movement, healthy people and healthy lifestyle. I need and want this healthy balance. I can’t work full speed without a break anymore. I need to use this retrograde time to achieve a balance with my health, spirit and body.
I will also will be using this time to become very present. I can’t control anything and I don’t know what the Universe has in store for me. There are lessons in life that I need to learn and sometimes they come with great rewards, sometimes they can bring pain, but the key is to keep moving forward. There is a reason why this is all happening. I just don’t know what it is yet.
I realized the best action for me to take right now is to make as much room as possible for magic. Doing simple things like clearing my social calendar so I have more free time to devote to slowing down and being present is a start. Staying home more and cooking healthy meals will not only help me feel better but will also help me to save money. I am going to set intentions during this full moon to spend more time in silence to help calm my brain. I will be writing more and working in my studio more to calm my energy system. I will be slowing down any and all big plans so I can simply focus on what’s happening right now. I will make room for magic so that if and when lessons come my way, I am able to handle them better. I will lean into faith and the realization that sometimes we all need a great reset.
Ritual for Preparing To Slow Down
Let’s look for some time to start slowing down. Sit with a cup of tea, take a bath or a walk. Do something to relax. Let’s get the body, mind and spirit in sync. When you feel ready, take your journal and write down places where you want to, and where you can, slow down for the next few weeks. Take a few moments to think about the places in your life where you feel the most fried, and do what you can to become ultra-present in those spots so that during this retrograde time, you feel calm. Is the stress around places where you feel insecure in love? Are you needing to spend some time alone so you don’t forget how much you love yourself and your life? Are you needing to spend some time talking to your partner so that you can both learn to communicate better? What if part of this slowing down process was to give your partner some space to express themselves while you worked on what it is you truly need? Are you feeling stressed out at work? Is there something you can do to help you feel more present and successful? Can you change certain meetings during the week so that you have time to plan and process before allowing the anxiety to take over? Do you need to balance your work load and your life better so your health is not constantly under attack due to stress? What are the small things we can do while this retrograde energy is coming in to help keep us slowly present and on track?
Retrograde energy is not a time to start anything new. It’s truly a time to just hunker down and work on being fully present to the moment. It’s a time to review where we have been and evaluate if it’s the right course. It’s a time to focus on our basic human needs so we are not surprised when life lessons happen. It’s a natural hibernation time.
I intend to view this retrograde time in a positive light. I will use it for good. I will slow down, I will become present to life and to peace. I will simplify and I will practice daily gratitude. I will smile and enjoy life as much as I can.
