Full Moon Ritual for January
Going Clean in 2017*
Though very new, this year has already brought in some interesting energy. In 2016 we were given the opportunity to study and deal with loss. Now that the calendar has turned, and as we get closer to the Full Moon, the Universe is asking us to take control of what we need to let go of in 2017. We are in a fresh New Year; a “1” year in numerology. We can’t create or realize our big dreams and tap into our magic if we are still carrying baggage from our past or even our present. I have been seeing this energy with my clients and friends all week long; they are talking about being loaded down with old energy. It is an uncomfortable start to the New Year. But once I start talking about cleaningthis energy out they come alive. They say yes! This is exactly the urge I am getting. It’s like Spring Cleaning has come early this year. Or a Spring Cleaning that will last all year which is what I am telling them. We are Going Clean in 2017.
This energy has hit me over the head. I woke up on New Year’s Day with an intense desire to clean. And I mean clean the house, clean my body, and clean my emotional health along with my spiritual health. I want to be quiet and clean. I immediately started a clean eating program. I am giving myself the month of January to prepare for it and then start the heavy lifting in February. I also have made an intention to discard, through donation or pure disposal, four bags of no-longer-useful possessions every month. My goal is one bag every weekend, put together on my way to my magical studio. I have things in my life that date to high school. It’s no longer useful or healthy for me to carry this energy around. I also woke up with the desire to become more discerning about the people I let into my life. This simply means I want relationships that are nurturing for everyone involved. I feel inspired by these changes. I am letting go of people, things, and situations that need to go. For the first-time I am doing it with pleasure and not regret. 2016 really taught me that saying goodbye is hard but that it also allows for new beginnings.
Going Clean in 2017
For this Ritual, take your new magical 2017 journal and make a list of places in your life where you feel energetically stuck, or unhappy. Is your home full of material things that are connected to old memories and that no longer bring you joy? Is your job something you resent instead of enjoy? Are your friendships ones where you have begun to realize the other people no longer actually see you but instead, they see simply what they want to see? Do you need to detox from sugar because it has become an unhealthy solution to the mid-afternoon slump? Let’s list all the places in our lives we want to clean up or clean out in 2017. Just like with my new clean-eating routine, we are going to start small, with baby steps, moving on to large changes so that we don’t rebel. For each area that needs to be cleaned, what are some small steps we can take to get us there? Is it one box a month of old belongings donated to charity? Is it one friendship every six months where the energy has gone stale that needs to be revisited and reevaluated? Are you ready to call in love or to clean the areas that are creating roadblocks to that love? Let’s let go of all these obstacles that are holding us back and set our energy around this first Full Moon of the year to what needs to be clean so we can set our big dream intentions at the New Moon. Endings allows for new beginnings. But first we need to clean in order to prepare for all that we will be calling in this year. Body, Mind, Spirit and Home.

*Please understand my use of the word clean is a very personal, non-judgmental, non trigger based use of the word. I like the word because it rhythms with 2017, it helps me to think of spring, to think of feeling better, to think of open spaces and loving energy. If you need to replace the word with something else that works for you, I fully support that and am open to hearing what word speaks to you.
